We all know what Brock Lesnar does well. So, what is the best way to beat him? Never give him the chance to take you down. I know, it’s easier said than done. But, Cain Velasquez is one of the few guys in the heavyweight division that can do it.
In Brock’s last fight we learned that he still has horrible stand up, can take a beating and looks very funny curled up in the fetal position. I think Lesnar would have lost if Shane Carwin didn’t gas out. Shane stuffed an early takedown attempt and pounded the heavyweight champion for about 4 mins. When Carwin came out for round 2 his legs were gone and he basicly had nothing left in the tank. Then Brock got the takedown and slapped the arm triangle on. Cain is a cardio machine and will be a tougher test for Lesnar.
Velasquez’s strategy has to be based on patience, foot and head movement, quick strikes and no kicks (because when kicking you go up on 1 leg and are easier to takedown).
The movement should be quick, always in half steps, in circles and under no circumstances backward. If you can keep Brock moving in circles it will be really hard for him to get the takedown; he needs to plant his feet. I would advise my fighter to throw a lot of lead uppercuts/hooks and keep that jab in Lesnar’s face. Also, mix up the combos, use feints and keep the big man off balance and unsure of what is coming at him. After a couple rounds of not getting the bout to the mat Brock Lesnar will get very frustrated. The UFC heavyweight champion is 1 dimensional and still has below average stand up skills.
Here is a detailed round by round account of what should be done to win.
Round 1
The whole entire round should be spent keeping those feet moving in half steps and not let the big man get a hold of you. Also, pump a snapping jab in the UFC champions face and mix in some straight right hands and lead uppercuts. All combinations should be fast and in no more than 3 punches.
Round 2
Round 2 should look the same as round 1. The Challenger must stay very disciplined and stick to the fightplan.
Round 3
At this point Brock will be very frustrated and get wreckless going for the takedown. So it’s still very important to be patient through the 1st half of the round. At about the 2 1/2 minute mark it will be time to step up the power. Start hitting Brock with hard shots, but not go for the kill yet. Just really begin punishing him. By rounds end the former WWE superstar will be beaten down mentally and physically.
Round 4
Finish where you left off. Keep hitting Lesnar with powerful combinations and really start looking for the finish after about 1 1/2 minutes into the 4th. Start unloading on the former NCAA wrestling champion. The finish will come in the 2nd half of the round.
The Predicition
Cain Velasquez will win this fight by stoppage in the 3rd or 4th round and will become the 1st fighter of Mexican heritage to win a heavyweight championship in a combat sport.
