When Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao steps into the ring with Antonio Margarito his fight plan will be based on foot movement and hand speed.
Pacman will have a huge edge in speed. He can’t lay on the ropes and allow a bigger, stronger opponent the opportunity to bang away at his body and head. Manny must circle, move in and out and again not allow his back to touch the ropes.
Antonio will be super aggressive during this bout and look to bully the smaller man. Margarito is strong, determined and is known for an iron chin. He is being highly underestimated in this fight because of his performance against Shane Mosely. The Tijuana Tornado ballooned up in weight and had to lose 35 pounds in a short amount of time. He clearly wasn’t ready for that match. This is a mistake he will not make against Manny.
Here is a detailed account of what the bout should look like:
As soon as the bell rings Pacman should start circling. Probably doesn’t matter which way because Tony is a 2 fisted puncher, but Margarito does prefer the left hook to the body (Just something to keep in the back of Pacquiao’s mind). Fire off quick combinations to keep the Tijuana Tornado off balance. They key here is to never let Antonio get the opportunity to set his feet. Have to keep the taller man moving laterally. Here are some examples of punching combos: 1) Lead Right Hook, Left Uppercut, 2 Right Hooks, Straight Left Hand then Duck and Pivot off to the right. 2) Left Uppercut, Straight Right, Left Hook, Duck and Pivot to the left. 3) 2 Straight Left Hands, Right Hook, Straight Left, Right Uppercut, Move out and Circle left or right. 4) Lean head to the right and fire and Overhand Left, Right Uppercut, Duck and Pivot to the left, then immediately throw a Straight Left followed by 2 Right Hooks. 5) Lean head to the left and throw a Left Uppercut, Overhand Right, Duck to the right and fire a Left Hook at the sametime, Pivot right and Circle out with 2 Jabs.
