On November 13th Yushin Okami will face Nate “The Great” Marquardt. This will be a tough bout, but Yushin has all of the intangibles to win.
First and foremost, Okami has to make Nate respect him in the stand up game. He also has to use his size and strength to his advantage. Yushin has to keep his hands high, mix up his combinations and keep the Wyoming native moving backwards. Once he gets Marquardt a little off balance and going straight back Okami can go for takedowns. Once Yushin gets the takedown, the ground game should be all about control, patience and heavy ground and pound.
Here is a detailed account of what the whole fight should look like.
As soon as the bell rings Yushin needs to attack Nate and get him back pedaling. He must use fast combos to set up the takedowns. For Example: 1) Lead uppercut followed by a straight left and a double leg takedown. 2) Straight left , right hook, left uppercut and then push Marquardt into the cage (Once against the cage, the big Southpaw should attack Nate’s legs with knees, punches and elbows). 3) Superman punch off the lead hand, back leg roundhouse kick, lead leg push kick. 4) Feint the jab, right hook, slap a Muay Thai Clinch on Marquardt, and start kneeing him anywhere on the body. 5) Double jab, right hook, pivot, straight left hand, double leg takedown. This bout is all about constant pressure. Once the fight hits the mat, control position and start landing punches and elbows to The Great’s body and head. The ground attack should be all about controlling position and keeping the Wyoming native on his back for the majority of the match.
